Growers Vote: Keep the Federal Christmas Tree Promo Program Alive?

Published Date: 4/22/2026

Notice

Summary

Christmas tree growers and importers who handle 500 or more trees are voting on whether to keep the current program that supports Christmas tree research and promotion. The vote happens by mail or online from May 22 to June 2, 2026, and helps decide if the program—and its fees—will continue. This means those involved get a say in how their industry stays strong and festive!

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Outcome: Continue or Terminate Order

USDA will continue the Christmas Tree Promotion, Research, and Information Order if a majority of eligible producers and importers voting favor continuance. If a majority does not favor continuance, USDA will follow the Order's suspension and termination procedures and conduct appropriate rulemaking.

Who Can Vote and When

If you produced or imported 500 or more Christmas trees between September 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026 and were subject to assessments under the Order, you are eligible to vote by mail or electronic ballot from May 22, 2026 through June 2, 2026 (ballots must show proof of delivery by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on June 2, 2026). About 1,200 people are expected to be eligible, and ballots and instructions will be mailed before voting begins.
