Summer EBT Food Benefits Get Inflation-Adjusted Boost for Kids

Published Date: 4/22/2026

Notice

Summary

Starting January 1, 2026, kids in the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (Summer EBT) Program will get updated monthly food benefits based on the latest food cost changes. This means families in all 50 states plus places like Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico will see adjusted amounts to help cover summer meals. The new benefit levels will last all year through December 31, 2026, making sure kids have the support they need when school’s out.

Analyzed Economic Effects

5 provisions identified: 4 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Contiguous States: $40/month Summer EBT

If you have children and live in the 48 contiguous States, the District of Columbia, or an Indian Tribal Organization, Summer EBT benefits remain $40 per child per month for 2026 (total summer benefit $120 for three months). This amount is in effect January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026.

Alaska: Higher, Area-Specific EBT Levels

If you have children and live in Alaska, Summer EBT monthly benefits for 2026 are $54 in Urban Alaska, $69 in Rural 1 Alaska, and $84 in Rural 2 Alaska, giving total summer benefits of $162, $207, and $252 respectively. These adjusted levels reflect a 3.30 percent TFP change and apply January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026.

Hawaii: Monthly Benefit Rises to $63

If you have children and live in Hawaii, Summer EBT monthly benefits increase to $63 per child in 2026, for a total summer benefit of $189. This change reflects a 6.20 percent TFP increase and is effective January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026.

U.S. Territories: Monthly Benefit Now $60

If you have children in U.S. territories (Guam, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, or the Northern Mariana Islands), the Summer EBT monthly benefit for 2026 is $60 per child, for a total summer benefit of $180. This represents a $1 monthly increase for 2026 and applies January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026.

Rounding Rule and Total Summer Calculation

The law requires each adjusted Summer EBT monthly amount to be rounded down to the nearest dollar, and the total summer benefit equals the rounded monthly amount multiplied by three. For example, the contiguous States monthly figure was rounded down from $40.82 to $40, producing a $120 summer total.
