New $200 Overweight/Oversize Fee
If you mail packages, starting July 12, 2026 the Postal Service will charge a $200 fee for overweight or oversize items reported in a manifest or found in the postal network. The fee applies to both retail and commercial mailers and must be paid before the item is released. The $200 fee may be paid by any authorized retail payment method or through USPS Ship.
Retail Transaction Exception
Starting July 12, 2026, overweight or oversize items discovered during a retail transaction and returned to the mailer will not be assessed the $200 fee. Items discovered later in the postal network or reported in a manifest remain subject to the $200 fee and release/payment rules.
Hard Size and Weight Limits Enforced
Any item exceeding the 70-pound weight limit or the 130-inch dimensional maximum is nonmailable and, if reported in a manifest or found in the postal network, will be assessed the $200 fee and must be secured for pick-up by the mailer or addressee. This rule takes effect July 12, 2026.
