30-Day Entry Pause for Travelers

If you are a non-U.S. citizen who departed from or were present in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda, or South Sudan during the last 21 days, the CDC suspended your right to enter the United States for 30 days beginning May 22, 2026. The suspension applies to “covered aliens” and is intended to reduce the risk of introducing Ebola (Bundibugyo virus) into the United States.

Lawful Permanent Residents Now Covered

Lawful permanent residents (LPRs) who were present in DRC, Uganda, or South Sudan within the last 21 days are now included among the covered aliens subject to the 30-day suspension that began May 22, 2026. The amended order reflects that 42 CFR 71.40(f) no longer provides an exemption for lawful permanent residents.

Specified Exceptions Preserve Entry Rights

The order does not apply to U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals, members of the U.S. armed forces and associated personnel (with required assurances), U.S. government personnel serving overseas (with assurances), and certain noncitizens excepted by customs officers or admitted via DHS-approved processes with mitigation protocols. These exceptions remain in place while the 30-day suspension is effective beginning May 22, 2026.
