Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Large paddle event increases congestion

The paddle event is expected to include approximately 150 participants and about 130 spectator craft, which the Coast Guard says creates potential hazards including increased vessel congestion and transiting in the pathway of commercial traffic. The SLR was issued to protect event participants, non-participants, and transiting vessels during the scheduled events.

Boating access blocked on four evenings

You cannot enter the regulated area of the Maumee River (from the Craig Memorial Bridge at 41°39'37.623" N, 83°30'42.908" W to the Glass City River Wall at 41°37'36.397" N, 83°31'52.431" W) without permission during enforcement periods on June 11, 2026; June 24, 2026; July 15, 2026; and August 5, 2026. The rule is effective during those dates from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. (the rule text also notes enforcement from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.) and prohibits persons and vessels from entering, transiting through, anchoring in, or remaining in the area unless authorized by the Captain of the Port Detroit or a designated representative.
