Five Cultural Items Returned to Pojoaque

If you are a member of or affiliated with Pojoaque Pueblo, the University of California, Berkeley intends to return five cultural items (three jars, one vessel, and one 'Pueblo stone image') that the University has determined are objects of cultural patrimony with a connection to Pojoaque. The repatriation may occur on or after July 6, 2026.

Who May Request Repatriation and Process

Any lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization not identified in this notice may send a written request for repatriation if they show by a preponderance of the evidence that they are a lineal descendant or culturally affiliated. Competing requests must be resolved by the University of California, Berkeley before repatriation, and requests for joint repatriation are treated as a single request.
