You (or someone you recommend) can be nominated to serve on one of three regional Marine Mammal Scientific Review Groups if the nomination is received by July 6, 2026. Nominations must include the nominee's curriculum vitae, contact information, and details showing how the nominee meets the selection criteria; self-nominations are acceptable and should be emailed to the NMFS Office of Science & Technology.
Volunteer service: no pay, travel reimbursed
SRG membership is voluntary and unpaid, but members may receive reimbursable travel and related expenses. Service is without pay except for reimbursable travel and related expenses.
Three-year term, reappointment possible
If selected, SRG members serve a 3-year term and may serve up to three consecutive terms if reappointed. Members attend annual meetings and undertake activities related to scientific review during their terms.
Eligibility and vetting rules for nominees
NMFS intends SRG members to be independent and not composed of Federal employees or contractors; nominees identified as potential members must be vetted, confirm they are not registered Federal lobbyists or registered foreign agents, and complete a confidential financial disclosure form. Nominees will be notified of selection decisions in advance of the 2027 SRG meetings.
