HUD Will Store Your Section 8 Financial Data

HUD will collect and keep financial and identifying records for Public Indian Housing (PIH) Section 8 recipients and grantees in the HUDCAPS system. Records include name, Business Tax ID (which can be Social Security Number), EIN/TIN, DUNS, business bank account and routing numbers, and other financial information; records are retrieved by Business Tax ID.

HUD May Use Do Not Pay Checks

HUD may disclose information from HUDCAPS to the U.S. Department of the Treasury to review payment and award eligibility through the Do Not Pay Working System to identify, prevent, or recoup improper payments. This routine use implements Executive Order 14249 and OMB Memorandum M-25-32 (August 20, 2025).

HUD Can Send Debt Info to Credit Bureaus

HUD may disclose information from HUDCAPS to consumer reporting agencies when trying to collect a claim owed to the government under 31 U.S.C. 3711(e). Disclosed items may include name, Social Security Number, address, the amount, status and history of the claim, and the agency or program that originated the claim.

You Must Provide Notarized Proof To See Records

If you request your own records from HUDCAPS, HUD requires that you provide your full name, current address, telephone number and either a notarized statement or an unsworn declaration made under 24 CFR 16.4. Requests should be sent to HUD at 451 7th Street SW, Washington, DC 20410-0001.
