Coast Guard Locks Down Miami Bay for World Cup

Published Date: 6/17/2026

Rule

Summary

From June 13 to July 5, 2026, the Coast Guard is setting up a temporary security zone in Biscayne Bay near Bayfront Park, Miami, to keep everyone safe during the FIFA World Cup and Fan Fest. Boats can’t anchor or hang out in this zone unless they get special permission. This helps protect VIPs, players, and fans while making sure the waterfront stays secure during the big event.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

Temporary boating ban near Bayfront Park

If you operate a boat in Biscayne Bay near Bayfront Park, you may not enter, anchor, or remain in the security zone from 6 a.m. on June 13, 2026 through 6 a.m. on July 5, 2026 unless you have permission from the Captain of the Port (COTP). The zone covers all waters of Biscayne Bay from approximately Port Boulevard south ending before the Miami River entrance and is enforced during those dates.

You must get Coast Guard permission to enter

If you need to enter the security zone during June 13–July 5, 2026, you must obtain authorization from the Captain of the Port or the COTP's designated representative by contacting them on VHF-FM channel 16 or by telephone at (305) 535-4472. Vessels transiting around the zone must follow all lawful orders from the COTP or their designated representative while the zone is enforced.

Coast Guard expects limited small-business harm

The Coast Guard certified the rule will not have a significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities, noting the zone affects a small area of Biscayne Bay near Bayfront Park for approximately 24 days and that alternative transit routes remain available. The agency will also issue Broadcast Notices to Mariners and maintain patrols to help vessels adjust transit plans.
