Nuclear Safety Panel Trims Agenda After New Order

Published Date: 6/18/2026

Notice

Summary

The Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) is meeting July 8-10, 2026, to focus on updating how nuclear reactors get licensed and checked for safety. They’re trimming down their work to only the most important and new issues, thanks to a recent government order. This means faster, smarter reviews that affect nuclear plant operators and the public, with meetings open for remote participation and no big cost changes expected.

ACRS Narrows Safety Reviews per E.O.

The Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) is implementing Section 4.(b) of Executive Order 14300 (dated May 23, 2025) so its functions will be reduced to the minimum needed to meet statutory duties and its review of permitting and licensing will focus only on issues that are truly novel and noteworthy. This change was announced in connection with the ACRS meeting scheduled for July 8–10, 2026, and the ACRS will only do other work if the NRC Commission directs it to do so.
