NRC can speed amendments to avoid shutdowns

The NRC may issue license amendments before the normal waiting periods if it finds the change involves no significant hazards consideration (NSHC). The NRC may also act before the 30-day comment period ends if delay could cause derating or shutdown of a plant.

Oconee license change supports 80-year operation

The NRC issued amendments that revise pressure and temperature limit curves for Oconee Nuclear Station Units 1–3, with the revised curves applicable through 72 effective full power years and supporting continued safe operation through 80 years in accordance with 10 CFR part 50, appendix G.

Public comment and hearing deadlines

You can send comments on the proposed license amendments by July 23, 2026. If you want a hearing or to intervene, you must file a request or petition by August 24, 2026 (60 days from the June 23, 2026 publication).

Many amendments categorically exclude environmental review

For these amendments, the NRC has determined they meet the criteria for categorical exclusion under 10 CFR 51.22. That means, unless noted otherwise, no environmental assessment or environmental impact statement will be prepared for those amendments.
