Forgotten Pesticide Fees Could Mean Product Cancellations

Published Date: 6/25/2026

Notice

Summary

The EPA is planning to cancel some pesticide registrations because companies either asked to cancel them or didn’t pay their 2026 maintenance fees. If no one objects by July 27, 2026, these cancellations will go through, meaning those pesticides can’t be sold or used anymore. This affects pesticide makers and users, so keep an eye on deadlines and fees to avoid losing registrations!

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 1 mixed.

Voluntary Registrations Will Be Cancelled

EPA received requests from registrants to voluntarily cancel the product registrations listed in Table 1. If no substantive comments are received and registrants do not withdraw their requests by July 27, 2026, EPA intends to issue orders cancelling those registrations, after which sale, distribution, or use of the listed products will be limited to terms in the final cancellation order.

Non-Payment Leads To Cancellation

EPA intends to cancel the product registrations listed in Table 3 for which registrants did not pay the 2026 registration maintenance fee. Unless EPA receives full payment of maintenance fees for those registrations by July 27, 2026, the Agency will issue cancellation orders without taking public comment.

Annual Maintenance Fee Requirement

Under FIFRA, pesticide registrants must pay an annual registration maintenance fee that is due by January 15 each year to keep registrations in effect. EPA may reduce or waive maintenance fees for minor agricultural use pesticides or exempt public health pesticides when certain economic conditions are met.
