States Must File TAP/RTP Annual Report

State Departments of Transportation (and coordinating State agencies and metropolitan planning organizations) must prepare an annual Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Recreational Trails Program (RTP) report under 23 U.S.C. 133(h)(8). Each fiscal year States must report the number and cost of TAP applications and TAP selections, plus descriptive details about selected projects, and FHWA will share that information publicly.

Estimated Reporting Burden — 40 Hours Per State

FHWA estimates the average burden to prepare the TAP and RTP annual report is 40 hours per response and an Estimated Total Annual Burden of 2,040 hours across the 50 States and the District of Columbia. The agency previously solicited comment on these burden estimates and received five comments.

FHWA Will Publish TAP/RTP Reports Online

FHWA is required by 23 U.S.C. 133(h)(8) to publicly post the TAP and RTP annual reports on its website; previous reports are available at https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/transportation_alternatives/annual_reports/. Anyone interested in highway planning can view the number, cost, and descriptions of TAP applications and selections there.
