New UAFR Process Could Limit Drone Flights

The FAA proposed a rule to let operators or proprietors of certain fixed site facilities request and maintain an unmanned aircraft flight restriction (UAFR) near those sites if the restriction is necessary for aviation safety, protection of people and property on the ground, national security, or homeland security. The FAA is also asking for data to estimate compliance costs for unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operators, including small operators, and the comment period for the proposal is extended to August 5, 2026 (previously July 6, 2026).
