Notice
Summary
Federal employees who want to reduce or cancel their Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) now have a new form to make it easier. The Office of Personnel Management is asking for public feedback on this new form until August 7, 2026. This update aims to simplify the process without changing costs or coverage timing.
Analyzed Economic Effects
4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.
Cancellation Is Permanent for Annuitants
If you are an annuitant enrolled in FEGLI and you cancel your enrollment using the RI 76-30 form, that cancellation will prevent you from ever re-enrolling as an annuitant. The form is intended to ensure you are fully informed that cancellation is permanent.
Reductions Prevent Future Increases
If you are an annuitant and you reduce your FEGLI coverage (Basic, Option B, or Option C) using the RI 76-30 form, you will be prohibited from increasing your coverage later as an annuitant. The form documents that a reduction stops future increases.
New FEGLI Reduction/Cancellation Form
If you are an annuitant enrolled in the Federal Employees Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Program, OPM is introducing a new form (RI 76-30) to make it easier to reduce or cancel your FEGLI coverage. The agency says the change is intended to simplify the process and will not change costs or the timing of coverage.
Form Filing Time and Burden Estimate
OPM estimates the RI 76-30 form will be completed by about 5,000 respondents, takes about 10 minutes per respondent, and totals 835 burden hours. Requests are not processed until the signed form is returned to OPM.
