Epilepsy Exemptions Denied for 18 Drivers

On July 17, 2026, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration denied exemption requests from 18 individuals who asked to be allowed to drive commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce despite a clinical diagnosis of epilepsy or seizure disorders. The agency said these 18 applicants did not meet the minimum time requirement for being seizure-free, either on or off anti-seizure medication, so they remain ineligible to operate interstate commercial motor vehicles under 49 CFR 391.41(b)(8).
