Published Date: 7/17/2026

Notice

Summary

NOAA is asking to keep their Access-Point Angler Intercept Survey (APAIS) going, which helps track how many fish people catch and who’s fishing along the coast. About 100,000 anglers will spend just 5 minutes sharing info each year, helping protect fish and keep fishing fun for everyone. They’re open for comments for 30 more days before the survey continues without extra costs or big changes.

100,000 Anglers: 5‑Minute Survey

NOAA will survey about 100,000 marine recreational anglers each year with a one-time, in-person interview that takes about 5 minutes (0.083 hours) per person, for a total annual burden of 8,333 hours. The survey is voluntary and is conducted at public-access coastal sites from Maine to Alabama, and in Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Data collected include catch, fishing effort, fish biology, and angler socioeconomic information used under the Magnuson‑Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act.
