Orange B Use Banned on Frankfurter Casings
If you make or color frankfurters or sausages, the FDA is revoking the rule that allowed Orange B to be used on casings or surfaces. The revocation takes effect September 8, 2026, and FDA says Orange B has not been batch certified for use in U.S. food since 1978.
Orange B Batch Certificates Terminate
All certificates for existing batches and portions of Orange B will cease to be effective for use in food on September 8, 2026. Any lot of Orange B will be regarded as uncertified after that date, and using Orange B in food after that date will make the food adulterated.
