Caribbean fish assessment affects local fishing

A SEDAR 103 workshop on Caribbean assessment methods will be held August 17–21, 2026 in Miami to develop and select assessment methods that generate management advice for U.S. Caribbean federally managed species. The assessment process helps decide future fishing rules that affect fishermen, businesses, and communities in the Caribbean.

Who can participate in the assessment

Participants for SEDAR projects are appointed by the Gulf, South Atlantic, and Caribbean Fishery Management Councils and NMFS and may include data collectors, stock assessment scientists, fishermen, environmentalists, NGOs, international experts, and agency staff. Being appointed lets those parties take part in developing the methods and reports used for management advice.

Meeting accessibility and accommodation rules

The in-person workshop is physically accessible to people with disabilities, and requests for sign language interpretation or other auxiliary aids must be directed to the Council office at least 5 business days before each workshop. The times and sequence of the agenda are subject to change.
