Laboratories owned by eligible academic entities (colleges and universities, including teaching hospitals and non-profit research institutes owned by or affiliated with a college or university) may follow Subpart K of 40 CFR part 262 as an alternative set of hazardous waste generator rules. Eligible academic entities have the discretion to choose Subpart K or remain subject to the existing generator regulations.
