Ten Sherds Affiliated to Quapaw Nation
The Denver Art Museum determined that 10 associated funerary sherds (gifted to the museum in 1934 and reported as from the Wickliffe site in Ballard County, Kentucky) are culturally affiliated with the Quapaw Nation. These 10 sherds may be repatriated to the Quapaw Nation on or after August 31, 2026.
Who May Request Repatriation
The museum will accept written repatriation requests from any one or more of the Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations identified in the notice, or from a lineal descendant, Indian Tribe, or Native Hawaiian organization not identified who shows by a preponderance of the evidence that they are entitled. If competing requests are received, the Denver Art Museum must determine the most appropriate requestor before repatriation.
