Summary
The Coast Guard will enforce various safety zones for maritime events in the Captain of the Port Northern Great Lakes zone. Enforcement of these safety zones is necessary to protect the safety of life and property on the navigable waters immediately prior to, during, and immediately after the events. During the periods in question, the Coast Guard will enforce restrictions upon, and control movement of, vessels in a specified area immediately prior to, during, and immediately after events. During each enforcement period, vessels must stay out of the established safety zone and may only enter with permission from the designated representative of the Captain of the Port Northern Great Lakes.

Elk Rapids 30‑Minute Safety Zone
If you operate a vessel in Elk Rapids, Michigan, you must stay out of the designated safety zone from 10:00 p.m. through 10:30 p.m. on August 8, 2026 unless you have permission from the Captain of the Port Northern Great Lakes' designated representative. The Coast Guard will give advance notice by Broadcast Notice to Mariners or Local Notice to Mariners and may suspend enforcement and grant permission to enter if it decides to do so.
Rogers City Fireworks Safety Zone
If you operate a vessel in Rogers City, Michigan, you must stay out of the designated safety zone from 10:00 p.m. through 10:30 p.m. on August 16, 2026; if there is inclement weather the enforcement date moves to August 23, 2026. You may only enter the zone with permission from the Captain of the Port Northern Great Lakes' designated representative, and the Coast Guard will provide advance notice by Broadcast Notice to Mariners or Local Notice to Mariners.
