Bureau of Indian Education Seeks School Data Renewal Approval

Published Date: 8/27/2026

Notice

Summary

In accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, we, the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), are proposing to renew an information collection with revisions.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Student Enrollment Data Determines Eligibility

Bureau-funded schools use the BIE Student Enrollment Application to collect information that school registrars use to determine a student’s eligibility for enrollment. If eligible, that data is shared to identify educational and residential program needs and is compiled into a national database to help the Bureau of Indian Education make budget requests and allocate congressionally appropriated funds.

Behavioral Health Data Collection Ends

The Behavioral Health and Wellness Program (BHWP) has concluded its services, and no additional information will be collected for BHWP through this data collection. This means respondents will no longer provide BHWP-related data as part of this collection.

Estimated Time Burden for Enrollment Forms

The BIE estimates the information collection will involve about 48,000 respondents and 48,000 responses per year, with each response taking about 15 minutes, totaling 12,000 annual burden hours. The collection is occasional and is required to obtain a benefit (enrollment).
