In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Field Museum has completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects and has determined that there is a cultural affiliation between the human remains and associated funerary objects and Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations in this notice.

Field Museum to Repatriate 45 Remains

If you are a member of the Blackfeet Tribe, a lineal descendant, or an affiliated Indian Tribe or Native Hawaiian organization, the Field Museum has determined that 45 human remains and 83 associated funerary objects are culturally affiliated with the Blackfeet Tribe of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation of Montana and may be returned. Repatriation may occur on or after September 30, 2026, and requests for repatriation may be submitted by the Blackfeet Tribe, identified tribes or organizations, or by lineal descendants or other tribes/organizations that show cultural affiliation. If competing requests are received, the Field Museum will decide which requestor is most appropriate, and joint requests are treated as a single request.
