The Secretary of Transportation, as represented by MARAD, is authorized to make determinations regarding the coastwise use of foreign built; certain U.S. built; and U.S. and foreign rebuilt vessels that solely carry no more than twelve passengers for hire. Possible Coastwise Endorsement for S/V EPONA
If MARAD determines the use would not adversely affect U.S. vessel builders or coastwise businesses, the U.S. Coast Guard may issue a coastwise trade endorsement allowing the vessel S/V EPONA to carry no more than twelve passengers for hire in U.S. coastwise trade. The decision follows MARAD's review under 46 U.S.C. 12121(b).
Opportunity to Comment on Foreign Vessel Use
MARAD is asking for public comments on a request to allow the foreign-built vessel S/V EPONA to engage in U.S. coastwise trade. If you are a U.S. vessel builder or a coastwise trade business that uses U.S.-built vessels, you can submit comments and supporting evidence by October 5, 2026 (DOT Docket No. MARAD-2026-1391) to show whether the proposed use would have an undue adverse effect.
