Notice

Summary

In compliance with the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) of 1995, this notice announces that the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), Department of Veterans Affairs, will submit the collection of information abstracted below to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for review and comment. The PRA submission describes the nature of the information collection and its expected cost and burden, and it includes the actual data collection instrument.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Shorter Survivors Claim Form

If you are applying for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), Survivors Pension, or accrued benefits, VA Form 21P-534EZ will be shortened from 20 pages to 7 pages and the average time to complete it is reduced from 40 minutes to 25 minutes. The Veterans Benefits Administration plans to complete this streamlining by the end of Calendar Year 2026, and VA estimates about 110,000 respondents per year and 45,833 total annual burden hours.

Maintain Online and Paper Filing

VA will preserve options to submit VA Form 21P-534EZ either through VA.gov or on paper so claimants can choose the format they prefer while the form is simplified. The streamlining effort also intends to preserve accessibility for those who need alternatives to online filing.
