Railworker Labor Protections Apply
If you work for the involved railroads (including Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway, a Class II carrier, and Akron Barberton Cluster Railway, a Class III carrier), the transfer of control is subject to the labor protection requirements of 49 U.S.C. 11326(b). The Surface Transportation Board stated the intra-corporate family transaction is exempt from prior approval and the exemption becomes effective September 27, 2026, but the carriers’ obligation to protect employee interests remains in place.
