Temporary Lift of Cyprus Arms Embargo
From October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, the Department of State suspends the ITAR policy of denial that previously treated the Republic of Cyprus as a proscribed destination. This change means exports, reexports, and transfers of defense articles and defense services to Cyprus may proceed under ITAR rules for that period.
Exemptions and Case-by-Case Licensing
Exemptions to licensing requirements continue to be available for exports, reexports, retransfers, temporary imports, and brokering involving the Republic of Cyprus if the conditions for those exemptions are met. Applications for licenses and other authorizations involving Cyprus and Cypriot nationals remain subject to case-by-case review by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.
