Nasdaq Fees for Nighttime Trading Ports? Bureaucracy Never Sleeps!

Published Date: 9/15/2026

Notice

Summary

Nasdaq is updating its rules to make it clearer how much it costs to connect to its Night Session trading and is offering some fee waivers to encourage more members to join. This change affects traders and firms using Nasdaq’s Night Session ports and takes effect right away, potentially saving them money. It’s a smart move to boost after-hours trading with simpler fees and some free passes!

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

First five Night Session ports free

If your firm wants to connect to Nasdaq's Night Session, the Exchange will provide the first five Night Session ports of each port type ordered for an MPID without charge. This applies to FIX Trading, OUCH, CORE FIX, OUCH Purge, FIX Purge, and DROP ports starting September 1, 2026; beginning with the sixth port of the same type the Exchange will assess the standard per-port fee. The Night Session is planned to begin operating on or about December 6, 2026 and will run 9:00 p.m. ET through 4:00 a.m. ET Sunday through Thursday.

NTF Night Session testing ports waived

For testing connectivity to the Night Session through Nasdaq's Testing Facility (NTF), the Exchange will provide the first five Night Session NTF ports of each applicable port type ordered for an MPID without charge beginning September 1, 2026. Currently the Exchange charges $300 per NTF port per month, and beginning with the sixth NTF port of the same type the standard fee will apply. Participation in NTF testing is voluntary; the waiver is intended to encourage firms to test before the planned Night Session launch around December 6, 2026.

Night Session needs separate ports

The Night Session runs 9:00 p.m. ET through 4:00 a.m. ET Sunday through Thursday and operates in a separate system environment, so Day Session ports cannot connect to it. Members who want to trade in the Night Session must obtain separate Night Session ports (per MPID) and may be charged the standard per-port fees unless covered by the first-five-port waiver.
