In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) intends to repatriate certain cultural items that meet the definition of unassociated funerary objects or objects of cultural patrimony and that have a cultural affiliation with the Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations in this notice.

California State University, Fullerton intends to repatriate a total of 42 cultural items or lots (11 unassociated funerary objects and 31 lots of objects of cultural patrimony). Repatriation may occur on or after October 16, 2026, and additional written requests may be sent to the university's authorized representative listed in this notice.
Santa Ynez Band Identified as Affiliated
California State University, Fullerton determined there is a connection between the described cultural items and the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Mission Indians of the Santa Ynez Reservation, California. If competing repatriation requests are received, CSUF must determine the most appropriate requestor, and requests for joint repatriation are treated as a single request.
