Notice

Summary

NYSE National is updating its rules to handle trading restarts after a big market pause called a Level 3 circuit breaker. This change matches the new longer trading hours—23 hours a day, 5 days a week—so trading can safely resume without confusion. Traders and investors will see smoother restarts during extreme market events, helping keep the market fair and orderly.

Keeps 4:00 a.m. Reopening After Level 3 Halt

If a Level 3 market-wide circuit breaker (a 20% S&P 500 drop) triggers a halt, trading on the Exchange will remain halted until 4:00 a.m. ET or later on the following trading day. This change makes explicit that trading will not resume earlier (for example at 9:00 p.m. ET) when some exchanges start overnight sessions.

Overnight Trading Hours Start Dec 6, 2026

Several exchanges plan to offer overnight trading from 9:00 p.m. ET to 4:00 a.m. ET beginning December 6, 2026. The Exchange states it does not intend to implement 23/5 trading at this time.
