Who qualifies for Hi-Tech VETS
You may qualify for the High-Technology Veterans Education, Training and Skills (Hi-Tech VETS) Program if you are a Veteran who has served at least 3 years (36 months) on active duty, or a service member within 180 days of discharge who will have served 36 months by discharge, who received a discharge under conditions other than dishonorable, and who is under age 62. If you meet the age requirement when approved, you keep eligibility through completion of your program.
Program limited to programs starting by Sept 30, 2027
VA may provide educational assistance under the Hi-Tech VETS program only for high-technology programs of education that begin prior to September 30, 2027. Programs that begin on or after September 30, 2027 are not covered by this authorization in the notice.
New employment certification form required
VA will use VA Form 22-10299 for School Certifying Officials (SCOs) and Veterans in the Hi-Tech VETS program to certify that a Veteran obtained employment related to their program. Veterans must provide proof such as an offer letter, pay stub, promotion offer, a note from an employment manager, or marketing materials showing expansion of Veteran-owned businesses. The collection is estimated at 4,000 respondents, an average burden of 5 minutes per response, and 333 total annual hours.
VA must issue electronic award letters explaining entitlement effects
The DOLE Act requires VA to issue an electronic award letter that includes specific information on how entitlement requirements will affect an individual if they enroll in a Hi-Tech VETS program. This provides veterans specific, electronic information about entitlement impacts when making enrollment choices.
