Open Opportunity to Join FDA Advisory Panels

You can apply to serve as a voting member on FDA standing advisory committees any time because nominations are accepted on a continuing basis. If you submit a nomination on or before November 30, 2026, it will get first consideration for current and near-term vacancies.

Who May Apply and Required Documents

Only U.S. Citizens, non-citizen U.S. Nationals, and Permanent Residents may apply to be voting members. Nominations must include a current, complete résumé or curriculum vitae, must specify which advisory committee the nominee is recommended for, and must acknowledge that the nominee is aware of the nomination; self-nominations are accepted.

Appointment Status, Ethics, and Disclosure Rules

If you are a non-Federal voting member you will generally be appointed as a special Government employee and must follow Federal ethics and conflict-of-interest rules. FDA will ask potential appointees to provide detailed information about financial holdings, employment, and research grants or contracts to evaluate possible conflicts of interest.

Patients and Sponsors May Recommend for Device Panels

For medical device classification panels, patients, representatives of patients, and sponsors of medical devices may recommend individuals with appropriate expertise for voting-member positions, under section 513(b)(5)(D) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
