The Department of the Interior is accepting nominations for the Hunting and Shooting Sports Conservation and Access Council; nominations must be submitted by October 22, 2026 via the supplied email address. Service Terms and Travel Reimbursement
Council members are appointed to serve up to a 3-year term and serve without compensation, but while away from home on approved Council business they may be allowed travel expenses and per diem as authorized by 5 U.S.C. 5703. The Council will not exceed 18 primary members, up to 18 alternates, and 4 ex officio members.
Council Will Advise on Hunting Access and Conservation
The Council will provide recommendations to the Federal Government on policies that benefit wildlife and hunting, including assessing implementation of related orders, reviewing public lands to identify areas unreachable or unavailable for public hunting, and recommending actions to conserve wetlands, grasslands, forests and improve access and infrastructure. The Council will also advise on recruiting and retaining hunters, hunting safety and range development, and coordinating among public, Tribal, State, and private stakeholders.
