Notice

Summary

Nasdaq is updating its rules to handle how trading restarts after a big market-wide pause called a Level 3 circuit breaker. This change is needed because trading hours are expanding to 23 hours a day, 5 days a week. Traders and investors will see smoother restarts during these longer hours, with no extra costs or delays expected.

Level 3 Halt: Reopen at 4:00 a.m. ET

If the S&P 500 falls 20% (a Level 3 Market Decline), trading in all NMS stocks will halt and will not resume until 4:00 a.m. Eastern Time (ET) or later on the following trading day. This resumption time will remain in effect even after Nasdaq begins extended 23-hours-per-day trading.

Nasdaq Expands to 23-Hour Trading Window

Nasdaq will offer a Night Session from 9:00 p.m. ET to 4:00 a.m. ET so the Exchange can operate 23 hours per day, 5 days per week. The Exchange intends that the Night Session will become operative on or about December 6, 2026.
