Nasdaq Rewards Sneaky Hidden Orders with Cash Credits

Published Date: 10/9/2026

Notice

Summary

Starting October 1, 2026, Nasdaq is giving a new credit (a kind of discount) to traders who use hidden orders that add liquidity to the market. This change affects anyone trading on Nasdaq with non-displayed orders (except Supplemental Orders) and aims to encourage more trading activity. The update is already effective and could save money for traders using these special order types.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

New per-share credit for hidden liquidity

Starting October 1, 2026, Nasdaq will pay a credit to members that add liquidity using non-displayed orders (other than Supplemental Orders and other than midpoint orders) in securities priced $1 or more. The credit is $0.0015 per share executed in Tape A or Tape B and $0.0010 per share executed in Tape C, applied to members that meet the New Credit Tier qualifying criteria and will be applied based on a member's qualifying transaction volume during September 2026. The New Credit Tier is operative October 1, 2026 and expires in February 2027.

Looser qualification rules to earn the credit

The New Credit Tier keeps the same per-share credit amounts but changes qualification criteria: the reference month for comparison is August 2026 (instead of February 2026), the required increase in non-displayed liquidity (other than midpoint orders) is 5% (instead of 30%), and the New Credit Tier expires in February 2027. The Old Credit Tier also required a member to provide 0.10% or more of Consolidated Volume through non-displayed orders; that requirement remains in place.
