MIAX Fine-Tunes Its PRIME Auction Rules for Small Orders

Published Date: 10/16/2026

Notice

Summary

MIAX is updating its PRIME auction rules to make trading smoother and fairer for members using electronic orders. The changes focus on how orders under 50 contracts are handled and ensure better price checks before trades happen. These updates kick in right away and help traders get better price improvements without extra costs or delays.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Exchange will accept inferior-priced auction responses

If you are a MIAX Member submitting or responding to a PRIME or cPRIME auction, the Exchange will no longer reject Request for Response (RFR) messages that have prices worse than the initiating price. The System will process those responses during the Auction and will send a cancellation message for any responses that could not participate at the conclusion of the Auction.

Small Agency Orders blocked when NBBO spread is $0.01

If you are a MIAX Member trying to initiate a PRIME Auction with an Agency Order smaller than 50 contracts, the System will reject the Agency Order if, at receipt time, the national best bid or offer (NBBO) bid/ask differential is $0.01. This rule applies to initiating Agency Orders under 50 contracts.
