Texas Gateway Pipeline Seeks Public Input on Environmental Impacts
Published Date: 10/16/2026
Notice
Summary
Gulf South Pipeline Company wants to build the Texas Gateway Project, a new pipeline in parts of Texas and Louisiana. The government is checking how this might affect the environment and wants your thoughts by November 12, 2026. This project could change local areas and impact communities, so your voice matters before any big money or construction moves forward!
Analyzed Economic Effects
4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.
Landowners May Be Asked to Grant Easements; Eminent Domain Possible
If you are a landowner who received this notice, Gulf South may contact you to negotiate an easement to construct, operate, and maintain the proposed facilities, but you are not required to sign. If the Commission approves the project, the Natural Gas Act conveys the right of eminent domain to the company and, if you and the company do not reach agreement, the company could initiate condemnation proceedings in court where compensation would be determined by a judge under state law.
Construction Will Disturb and Permanently Use Land
Construction of the project would disturb about 3,034 acres of land and Gulf South would maintain about 996 acres for permanent operation of the project's facilities; the remaining acreage would be restored. About 40 percent of the proposed pipeline route parallels existing pipeline, utility, or road rights-of-way.
Wetlands, Waterbodies, and Wildlife Habitat Will Be Affected
The project would cross about 766 waterbodies (including 9 major waterbodies), disturb about 165.4 acres of wetlands during construction and about 29.7 acres during operation, and convert about 24.3 acres of forested wetland to emergent wetland. Habitat for species including the alligator snapping turtle, Louisiana pigtoe, Texas heelsplitter, monarch butterfly, tricolored bat, whooping crane, and migratory birds would be affected.
Opportunity to Comment — Deadline and In-Person Sessions
The Commission requests public comments on the scope of the EIS to be received by 5:00 p.m. Eastern on November 12, 2026. Four in-person scoping sessions are scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Central on: October 26, 2026 (Cleveland, TX); October 27, 2026 (San Augustine, TX); October 28, 2026 (Jasper, TX); and October 29, 2026 (Ragley, LA).
