Notice

Summary

Cboe EDGX Exchange is updating its rules to allow options trading on new types of crypto-based commodity trusts and certain exchange-traded funds (ETFs). This change makes it easier for investors to trade options on funds holding multiple cryptocurrencies, starting right away with no extra fees. If you trade options or invest in crypto ETFs, this update opens fresh opportunities on the exchange.

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Options Allowed on Multi‑Crypto Commodity Trusts

The Exchange can list options on commodity-based trusts that hold multiple crypto assets if each crypto asset has had an average daily market value of at least $700 million over the last 12 months and if each crypto asset underlies a derivatives contract that trades on a market with which the Exchange has a comprehensive surveillance-sharing agreement (directly or via the Intermarket Surveillance Group). This creates a pathway for options on funds holding several cryptocurrencies to trade on the Exchange.

Options on ETFs That Meet Rule 6c-11

The Exchange may list options on exchange-traded funds that qualify under SEC Rule 6c-11 (ETFs that meet Rule 6c-11's conditions and ongoing transparency requirements). This creates a streamlined path to list options on ETFs that operate under the Rule 6c-11 framework.

Monthly Continued‑Listing Checks and Possible Suspension

The Exchange will review each month whether the listing criteria for options on multi‑crypto-asset commodity trusts remain met. If the $700 million average daily market value or the surveillance-sharing requirement is no longer satisfied, the Exchange may consider suspending opening transactions in the affected option series.
