NIH Must Create Women's Health Division

The Secretary of Health and Human Services, through the NIH Director, must establish a Women's Health Division within an appropriate NIH institute or center within 90 days. That Division will be charged with increasing scientific review and coordinating research on understudied women's health conditions, promoting innovation and advanced research technologies, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, and facilitating translation of discoveries into clinical practice.

White House Women's Health Task Force Formed

The Executive Order creates a White House Women's Health Task Force co-chaired by the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff. The Task Force includes named Cabinet officials and agency heads (for example: the Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of Labor, Secretary of Education, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Administrator of the EPA, FDA Commissioner, CDC Director, NIH Director, ARPA-H Director, and the CMS Administrator), may hold public hearings and receive expert input, and the Department of Health and Human Services will provide funding for the Task Force's administrative costs.

More Inclusion and Sex-Specific Data in Research

The Women's Health Division is directed to support data-collection and research methodologies that improve understanding of sex-specific health outcomes and to increase inclusion of women and girls in clinical trials. It must also develop accountability for grant recipients to enhance adherence to the NIH policy requiring research to account for sex as a biological variable.
