Summary

Cboe BYX Exchange is updating its fee schedule by changing how it defines a “Trading Platform.” This tweak affects traders and firms using the exchange by clarifying what counts as a trading venue, helping everyone understand fees better. The change took effect right away on October 19, 2026, with no new fees added—just clearer rules!

More venues can be charged 'Trading Platform' fees

Starting October 19, 2026, BYX expanded the definition of “Trading Platform” to include any system through which other persons’ orders are systematically executed electronically (for example, broker crossing systems not filed as an ATS, systematic internalization systems, or decentralized blockchain-based/tokenized environments). That means such venues could be treated as Trading Platforms and subject to Trading Platform fees; BYX gives an example where a Trading Platform is charged $2,000/month for BYX Depth for Non-Display Usage versus $1,000/month for a non‑Trading Platform.

Clearer, function-based fee coverage across venues

BYX changed the Trading Platform definition to use a functional, use-based standard so functionally equivalent execution systems are treated the same. The Exchange says the change is intended to provide clarity and ensure equitable allocation of fees among Members and other persons using BYX facilities, and it expressly lists examples like single-dealer platforms and decentralized tokenized environments.
