Melamine Tariffs Get Fast-Tracked Review in a Chemical Trade Case

Published Date: 10/26/2026

Notice

Summary

The U.S. International Trade Commission is speeding up its review to decide if tariffs on melamine from China should stay or go. This affects American businesses that make or sell melamine products and could impact prices or trade rules soon. The review started on September 4, 2026, and aims to keep things fair without dragging on.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Expedited five-year review of melamine tariffs

On September 4, 2026 the U.S. International Trade Commission began expedited five-year reviews to decide whether revoking the antidumping and countervailing duty orders on melamine from China would likely cause continuation or recurrence of material injury. The Commission has the authority to extend the review period by up to 90 days under 19 U.S.C. 1675(c)(5)(B).

Commenting rights limited to one domestic respondent

The Commission found the domestic interested party group response adequate and the respondent interested party group response inadequate on September 4, 2026, and it found the response from Cornerstone Chemical Company to be individually adequate. Because of this finding, comments from other interested parties will not be accepted; written comments from parties that are participants and provided individually adequate responses are due on or before December 30, 2026 (or three business days after Commerce issues final results if Commerce extends its review).
