Summary
Florida Gas Transmission Company wants to build new gas facilities in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida as part of their Phase IX Project. The government is asking people to share their thoughts on how this might affect the environment before November 23, 2026. This feedback will help decide if the project moves forward and how to protect nature while doing it.
Analyzed Economic Effects
3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 3 costs, 0 mixed.
Landowners Face Eminent Domain Risk
If you are a landowner in Mississippi, Alabama, or Florida, Florida Gas Transmission Company (FGT) may contact you to negotiate an easement to construct, operate, and maintain the proposed facilities. You are not required to agree, but if the Commission approves the project and you do not reach an easement agreement, the pipeline company could initiate condemnation (eminent domain) proceedings in court and a judge would determine compensation under state law.
Construction Will Disturb and Permanently Use Land
Construction of the Phase IX Project would disturb about 2,245 acres of land and, after construction, FGT would maintain about 727 acres for permanent operation; the remaining acreage would be restored. The project includes 9 mainline looping segments totaling 94.6 miles, modifications to 13 existing compressor stations, pig launcher/receiver facilities, and 8 pig receiver station relocations.
Two New Compressor Stations in Florida
FGT would construct two new compressor stations in Lake and DeSoto Counties, Florida, and modify 13 existing compressor stations as part of the project. The Commission will evaluate environmental impacts including air quality and noise, water resources and wetlands, vegetation and wildlife, cultural resources, and socioeconomics, which could affect residents near those facilities.
