Published Date: 11/5/2026

Notice

Summary

HUD wants to keep collecting info from public housing agencies about their board-approved budgets to make sure money is spent right. They’re asking for public feedback by January 4, 2027, before renewing this paperwork. This affects housing agencies who manage budgets and helps keep public housing running smoothly without extra costs.

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.

PHAs must submit board-approved budget

Public housing agencies (PHAs) must submit Form HUD-52574 certifying their board approved the operating budget before HUD will obligate operating funds. HUD estimates a total annual burden of 14,685 hours and an annualized respondent cost of $669,048.60 across respondents (total annual responses 17,175 from 6,750 respondents). Comments on this information collection are due January 4, 2027.

HUD monitoring via budget submissions

HUD will use submitted operating budgets and updates to review PHAs' priorities, anticipated revenue and expenses, and to monitor actual financial performance; HUD may request budgets and updates from PHAs to conduct this oversight. HUD says without these collections it would lack tools to monitor PHAs and help ensure PHAs with performance issues improve.
