More HUD-VASH vouchers for veterans
If enacted, HUD and VA would set up a HUD-VASH National Pool Pilot within one year. The pilot would create a central pool of HUD-VASH rental vouchers and run for five years. HUD would identify PHAs that chronically underuse HUD-VASH vouchers, notify them, and give them time to use the vouchers before taking them back. HUD would reallocate those vouchers to veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, as the HUD Secretary defines.
Pilot ends but veterans keep vouchers
If enacted, the HUD-VASH National Pool Pilot would terminate five years after enactment. Any person who received a HUD-VASH voucher under the pilot and still has it after the pilot ends would keep that voucher under the regular HUD-VASH program and its existing rules.
