Benefits for retired officers after targeted attacks

If enacted, some retired law enforcement officers could get federal death or disability benefits. You must have left a public law enforcement job in good standing, in an official role, paid or unpaid. The injury must be from a targeted attack because of your service. It must have caused death or permanent, total disability. Officers or their survivors could qualify if these conditions are met. The change would take effect when enacted and cover pending and new claims. It would also apply to actions on or after August 28, 2012.
