North Platte Canteen Congressional Gold Medal Act
Sponsored By: Representative Smith, Adrian [R-NE-3]
Introduced
Summary
Would honor the volunteers and communities of the North Platte Canteen with a Congressional Gold Medal. The bill would direct the Secretary of the Treasury to strike a gold medal and present it on behalf of Congress to those who donated or volunteered at the Canteen. The medal would be given to the Lincoln County Historical Museum in North Platte for display and research. The Secretary could also strike bronze duplicates for sale. Costs to make the medals would be charged to the U.S. Mint Public Enterprise Fund and sales proceeds would be deposited into that fund. The Canteen served about 6 million U.S. troops during World War II.
