One-year court claim for Miami Tribe land
This bill would let the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma ask the U.S. Court of Federal Claims to decide a land claim under the 1805 Treaty of Grouseland. The court would hear the claim without regard to time limits, including 28 U.S.C. §2501, and without delay-based defenses. The tribe would have one year from enactment to file that claim. Except for a claim filed in that one-year window, the bill would extinguish all other current and future Illinois land claims by the tribe or its members, descendants, and predecessors in interest.
