Voluntary Urban Bird Conservation Program
This bill would direct the Secretary of the Interior to create a voluntary Urban Bird Treaty Program. The program would be run by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The Director would work with agencies, nonprofits, and community groups to restore habitat, control invasive plants, reduce hazards to birds, support bird monitoring, and run education and outreach. The bill would use the definition of "urban" in 23 U.S.C. 101(a).
Competitive Grants for Urban Bird Projects
This bill would create a competitive grant program to fund urban bird conservation, habitat work, monitoring, planning, and training. Eligible applicants would include Tribal, State, and local agencies, nonprofits, community groups, and academic institutions. The Director would enter into an agreement with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to administer the grants, and section 10(a) of that Foundation Act would not apply to that agreement or amounts. The bill would authorize $1,000,000 for each fiscal year 2026 through 2032 to carry out this section.
