More syphilis screening for Medicaid and CHIP
If enacted, HHS would issue guidance within 12 months to states, Medicaid and CHIP programs, and Indian health providers. It would explain how to expand syphilis tests for pregnant people and newborns, including tests in the third trimester and at delivery. It would promote education, telehealth, interpreter help, and materials in multiple languages. It would also share ways to improve treatment for syphilis and congenital syphilis. Within 2 years, HHS would send a public report to Congress on how these steps were used.
